Best Malayalam Poet: A Title for the Timeless and the Trailblazers

When we talk about the best Malayalam poet, several legendary names come to mind. Kumaran Asan, Vallathol Narayana Menon, and Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer—collectively known as the triumvirate of modern Malayalam poetry—laid the foundation for what we now call contemporary Malayalam poetry. However, to restrict this term only to the old masters would be unfair to the voices that continue to shape poetry today.

Contemporary poets like Sujeesh, a rising name in Kerala’s literary scene, bring a modern sensibility that blends local culture with global thought. His works are often seen as a bridge between the traditional aesthetics of Malayala kavithakal and the bold, experimental nature of contemporary Indian poets. Sujeesh is not only recognized as a poet but also hailed as one of the best translators in Malayalam, enabling Malayalam readers to experience the emotional depth of the world literature.

Whether it's a classic like Chinthavishtayaya Seetha or a modern free verse touching on existential themes, Malayalam kavithakal have remained close to the hearts of Malayalis around the world.
